The Most Perfect Things According to My Five Senses

Everyone has their favourite things.  Well, here are some of my favourite things classified by the five senses.

Sight

Let’s look at the less obvious things, rather than the things that everyone likes.  This is what I love looking at:  bookshelves filled with books, bookstores, bamboo forests, mountains.

Sound

These are the things I love to hear: silence, rain, light wind blowing through a forest with sounds of birds, ocean waves.

Touch

This is what I love to feel:  being in water, a cold drink in summer, my daughter’s hug, a cool breeze on a hot day.

Smell

I love these scents: bacon frying, curry, garlic.

Taste

There are so many things I love to taste, but these are at the top: bacon, grilled cheese sandwich, raspberries (I’ve been obsessed with them lately, even though it’s been a very long time since I’ve eaten any), fruit flavoured popsicle on a summer day, mint chocolate ice cream.

How about you?

  1. Fun! I’m definitely on board with a lot of yours. You would have been thrilled in our house this Summer. With so many fresh tomatoes we cooked a lot of bacon for BLT’s.

    For me:

Sight: Enormous, puffy clouds in a blue sky, the constellation Orion (especially in the Autumn and Winter here in the Midwest U.S.), my own book collection I sit across from every night, the landscape on misty, foggy mornings.

Sound: my sister’s little dog snoring (endlessly humorous), rolling thunder, birds chirping early in the morning.

Touch: my wife’s hand on my shoulder/neck when I am driving, the texture of an interesting dust jacket, the feel of comfy, long-sleeved clothes as the weather cools.

Smell: any kind of cinnamon scent, be it air freshener, potpourri, boiling cinnamon on the stove, grass that has just been mowed, the smell of new books, little babies and their baby-oil/powder smell.

Taste: the sour apple martini’s I like to make, dark chocolate, crab-stuffed mushrooms, the giant turkey legs you can get at fairs and festivals.

    1. I forgot about thunder. I love hearing thunder.

If I made a list of things that I hated the most based on the senses, you know what would be at the top of my list for taste? Tomatoes 🙂
