I spend a lot of my time on Goodreads through my iPhone app, so I don’t often see what’s going on through the website. But I was lucky enough to check it out last night and see that the 2014 Goodreads Choice Awards had started.
These awards allow you (if you’re a Goodreads member) to vote for your favourite books published in 2014. It’s the opening round now, so you can vote on the 15 books that have been statistically selected for each genre, or you can nominate your own favourites. Semifinals start next week, while the Finals start in two weeks.
I like these awards because they allow self-published authors to compete with established, traditionally-published authors. There’s also a category for Debut Goodreads Authors for those first time authors. It’s also a great opportunity for the reader to choose who should win.
I’m beginning to wonder if I should have a Goodreads Choice Awards reading challenge.
