2014 in Numbers

Let’s look back at the stats for 2014.  I already posted the Annual Report for the year a couple days ago, but I wanted to focus on the actual numbers.

Here are the basic numbers:

  1. At first I felt like my stats were nothing amazing, but then I looked at everything by year and realized that my stats have been taking pretty big leaps since I started the blog in 2012. That first year I had 3536 views, then in 2013 I had 11,030, and then in 2014 I had 35,035! Not too shabby at all! Hopefully the upward trend will continue. 🙂

Something that I find interesting, however, is that while I have more views last year than your blog, yours has a LOT more comments. It makes me wonder if there’s something about the way I post that doesn’t invite conversation? Something to think about!

    1. I often wonder about how to get more comments. But I’ve found that I tend to get more activity if I go out and comment on other blogs a lot. I wonder how much that affects things.

      1. It definitely helps, because people like to reciprocate, but I wonder HOW much it helps? I try to interact with lots of people’s blogs, but it gets difficult when I’m out West working 12-hour days in addition to trying to work on the blog and writing and everything. I wish I had about five more hours in every day. lol

        1. I know how you feel. Sometimes, it takes me a couple days to get to my comments, though I’m trying my best right now. I’m sitting in my in-laws’ house watching TV while my daughter plays with her new Anpanman trumpet and my sister-in-law’s husband drinks beer and eats snacks 🙂

  2. Whoa. I just looked at my stats (I never do that), and it turns out 2011 (87 views), 2012 (918 views), 2013 (650 views), 2014 (3,862). I wasn’t pussyfootin’ around in 2014 hahahah.

I really love the new stats page. I should tell WordPress that. It’s amazing compared to the old one.

Funny thing – I already have half as many comments for 2015 as I did all of 2011. O.O

My most popular post (other than my home page) is My Novel is in My Hands!

All these retrospective posts have me feeling a lot better about 2014 than I have for months. This is awesome. :3

    1. I’m liking the new stats page, too. It took a little warming up to it, though. I still use the old stats page, because it gives monthly averages for views, while the new page doesn’t. I like the summary.

  3. Compared to 2013, my blog in 2014 had
    7 times as many views
    7 times as many visitors
    50 times as many comments
    100 times as many likes

My most-viewed post in 2014 was “Warning; harsh sarcasm ahead” (http://northofandover.wordpress.com/2014/08/30/warning-harsh-sarcasm-ahead/), in which I expressed my frustration with people who make assumptions — nay, “rules” — about who can like what kinds of fiction based on the reader’s gender.
