Do You Know Anything About Canada?

320px-Flag_of_Canada.svgWhat do you know about Canada? I’m sure you know the flag has a maple leaf. But what else do you know? I’m going to give you a simple geography quiz. Please answer the questions in the comments without looking up the answer. This will be quick, I promise. But I’d also like you to say where you’re from. Let’s see how well the Canadians and the non-Canadians do.  Ready?

  1. What’s the capital of Canada?
  2. What are the three largest cities in Canada by metropolitan area population?
  3. What’s the population of Canada?
  4. How many provinces are there?
  5. What’s the most widely spoken language in Canada?

I will be marking your answers. If you didn’t do well, then my upcoming series Geography Quick Facts will definitely help!

    /ashamed.

      1. Hahahha that’s so sad. I am surprised I even got half an answer correct. I am a terrible judge of time, distance, amount – basically anything quantifiable. I don’t know why. D:

          1. I guess not! I’ve recently learned it’s a fibro thing, so maybe that’s it – I’ve been like this most my life. Which I find interesting when I recall that I always wanted to be an astrophysicist. I didn’t realize how much math was to do with physics back then. 😛

            1. My favourite part of astronomy was the planets anyway. I guess I should have focused more on geology, because that’s important for planetary sciences.

  8. 1. Capital: Ooootawa. (Ottawa)
    2) Largest cities? Hm. Toronto, Vancouver, Ontario?
    3) Population: Haven’t a clue. Don’t know what it is for the States or anywhere else, really. So no dissing Canada with that answer.
    4) Ten?
    5) Canadian. (English)

      1. My *very* good Canadian friend replied to me drolly, after viewing my answers, that Ontario is a province. Really? I mean I knew that but but but I really thought it was like NY and NYC, Quebec and Quebec…. I’m HOW old and thought there was a city Ontario? (I could even tell you where it is!) Oh my! Ooops. Fine. Switch out the mythical Ontario (which is a lovely, fine city) for Montreal in population.

  9. What’s the capital of Canada? Ottawa
What are the three largest cities in Canada by metropolitan area population? Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal
What’s the population of Canada? OOh boy, can’t even begin to guess. Can I get half a point if I say less than China?
How many provinces are there? 10 provinces, 3 territories – was that a trick question?
What’s the most widely spoken language in Canada? Vulcan. …I mean English.
    I’m Canadian, eh?

  10. 1. Ottawa
    2. Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver
    3. Around 30 million

    (and I’m Canadian.)

  11. Giving this a shot! I’m from the U.S. 🙂 I’m going to do bad, but you need this for good statistics right?

    1. Montreal
    2. Montreal, Ontario, Toronto
    3. 20 million
    4. 12
    5. French

  12. As an American living in Canada, I may have an unfair advantage. Hope I did well 🙂

    2. I’m pretty sure Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver
    3. I believe we’re sitting at around 35 mill right now
    4. Ten provinces and three territories
    5. English!

  14. I’m a huge fan of Canada so I thought this would be easy, but I haven’t thought about the questions you posed in years.

    1. Capital is Ottawa. 2. 3 largest metro areas are Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver. 3.Population is roughly 10% the USA population, so I’ll say 30+ million. 4.Nine provinces, but also 3(?) territories (Yukon, NW Territories, and the newest one whose name slips my mind (created within past 20 years or so). 5. English, with French a fairly close second.

And thanks for the blog follow, Jay Dee.

Best of luck with your writing,
    Chris

    1. No problem 🙂 The province used to be called Newfoundland, but that’s the name of the island. They decided to include Labrador in the name, as it is part of the province, so now it’s Newfoundland and Labrador.
