Do You Know Anything About the United States?

320px-Flag_of_the_United_States.svgWith the successful response about Canada, I thought I’d ask about the United States. It seemed not many people were very knowledgeable about Canada, unless they lived there. Of course, most of my readers are Americans, so why not see what they know about their own country? And what do other people know about the USA? So, without looking up the information, I’d like you to answer the following questions. No cheating, please!

  1. What’s the capital of the United States?
  2. What are the three largest cities in the US by metropolitan area population?
  3. What’s the population of the US?
  4. How many states are there?
  5. What is the largest state by area?
  6. Which state has the smallest population?
  7. If you go directly south from Detroit, where do you end up?

I will be marking your answers, just like I’ll be marking the Canada answers. If you don’t do well, then you can learn a lot about the United States with Geography Quick Facts, coming soon!

    Washington DC.

2.What are the three largest cities in the US by metropolitan area population?
    NYC, Los Angeles and Chicago.

    3. What’s the population of the US?
Last time I checked it was 300 millions, but that was a few years ago, so it must be a little bigger now.

    4. How many states are there?
    50

    5. What is the largest state by area?
Alaska. The largest in the contiguous states is Texas.

    6. Which state has the smallest population?
Arf… I’m not sure. Alaska or Montana.

    7. If you go directly south from Detroit, where do you end up?
In a lake (Lake Huron?) and/or in Canada.

  2. A Canadian to try these questions!

    6. Alaska
    7. Texas is on the border isn’t it? So I’m gonna say Mexico is directly south

            1. Ah, I see. I haven’t watched a hockey game on TV since the last time I was in Canada 4 1/2 years ago.

One of my former coworkers now sings the national anthems for Edmonton Oilers games 🙂

            2. Pretty cool!
There was a game not that long ago – I can’t remember which one, but I think it was Pittsburgh playing a Canadian team in Canada – where the singer’s mike screwed up during the US anthem. All of the Canadians watching the game stood up and started singing the song to finish it for the team, and there was a big deal made about it because it was like, man…Canadians are awesome. lol

            3. I heard about that. There was also an Oilers game in which the singer just held up his microphone and everyone sang. He didn’t. Unfortunately, he’s passed away since then. But I know his replacement 🙂 I used to work with him.
