I love reading, but there are some authors I’ve never read. And some of these authors are very popular, often considered required reading in science fiction and fantasy. Let’s just say there are a lot, but I only chose five authors for this. Again, I made a video about it!

I Read Encyclopedias for Fun 
I can’t believe you didn’t have to read Animal Farm in school. I did.
Nope. I had to read To Kill a Mockingbird, Lord of the Flies, The Wars, The Chrysalids, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and Hamlet. I think I read a Tennessee Williams play, too. I don’t remember which one.
I read a very old book by King called The Eyes of the Dragon. It was phenomenal, but one of his earlier works. I, too, want to read his Gunslinger Series in addition to It. I’ve read the first book in the Mistborn Series by Sanderson and part of the second. I…had some mixed opinions on it; I couldn’t finish the second, but I really want to read his Warbreaker, which I’ve heard is good. Since you mentioned Jordan, I read the first Wheel of Time…but wasn’t overly impressed. I want to give it another read though. He’s compared to George R R Martin, who’s the author of my favorite book series and second favorite story of all time.
I haven’t read Asimov either! The Foundation Trilogy is on my to-read list, as well. I read Fahrenheit 451 and Animal Farm back in high school, but I’ve never read 1984, which is also on my list. I did read Brave New World though, which is always compared to Orwell’s work.
As much as there is to read, I wouldn’t be too concerned even if you haven’t read classic/well known authors 🙂
I know that The Wheel of Time does often get mixed reviews. I found the first book rather formulaic. It seemed like the typical fantasy story with all usual plot points (you know, farmer boy, mysterious magic user with secrets, totally evil villain). But the second book was much better, and the third was quite different than the first two. I heard it slows down around books 6 and 7, but gets better after that.
I’m glad to hear the second book is better! I’m okay with the formulaic for the foundation. Gives me something to look forward to.
So far, the second and third books aren’t as formulaic. I thought the third book was totally different. I really wonder about the rest.

The only one I’ve read from that list is George Orwell. I read Animal Farm last year. I haven’t read the rest of them

The only Stephen King book I’ve read was Eye of the Dragon and I do have The Dark Tower books on my TBR pile, got most of them. I’ve read all but the final of the WoT series, some of them several times. It does drag on in the middle a bit (books 6 & 7) and a lot of people stop there, but I thought it picked up after that.
One author I’ve not read (there are a few of them) is J. K. Rowling. My daughter has, so many times that she can summarise a whole book for me if asked, but I haven’t.
I’ve heard a lot of people say The Wheel of Time drags in the middle. I have a friend who’s a big fan of the series and tells me not to give up on it in the middle. I haven’t reached that point yet, actually.
I’ve read all of these authors, at least a couple of books each. I liked pretty much everything I read from them, more or less. I didn’t like any of the first three Robert Jordan Wheel of Time series, so I haven’t read the final ones written by Sanderson.
But I have to say, to me, Asimov’s Foundation series was absolutely foundational to me. It improved my understanding of the world. It was a series that set a huge tone for my reading over the past 25 years or so, since I read the books my freshman year of high school. Strong recommendation for those books.
I’m really looking forward to reading the Foundation series.
I enjoyed the first three Wheel of Time books, though it started off slowly. I like the world, but it’s not the best one I’ve seen.
