I’ve talked about being an introvert before. I’ve talked about being an INTJ, the misconceptions of introverts (shyness in particular), and responding to lists about introverts. But I’ve never done this. I made a video!
Reaching an entirely new audience, I’m talking about what it’s like to be an introvert. I discussed a few different topics, such as:

I Read Encyclopedias for Fun 
Ayy, I’m an INTJ too~ I feel the same way about small talk, especially in places like dental clinics or the salon where I’m there to get a service done. I’ve told hair-dressers and the like before that they don’t need to make conversation with me, just focus on getting the job done well and I usually read a book instead. It’s a little awkward to say at first, but I prefer it over pretending to be interested in the small talk while I’m stuck in a chair wondering if they’re paying attention to the quality of the work itself.
The biggest drawback for me has been the phone thing; I hate answering and talking on the phone so much that I just refuse to do it unless it’s an absolutely necessity or with my partner. I always request texting or e-mails. It’s something people don’t seem to understand very well either. When I was younger with my first apartment, I had to call about a billing issue and was repulsed by being on the phone so much that it must have come across in my voice because customer service asked if I was okay and what was wrong, lol. I was perfectly fine, I just didn’t want to be talking on the phone!
You know what? I don’t mind talking while getting my hair cut. But usually I don’t say much. However, I got my hair cut earlier this year by a woman who’s from Ireland. I’m fascinated with Ireland, so I enjoyed talking to her about it, as well as what she thought of Canada, since she just moved here.
I got a new credit card 3 weeks ago. I still haven’t called to activate it. That’s how much I hate using the phone. I really should call…
Ireland seems like such an interesting place, I definitely want to visit eventually. The weather’s always sounded perfect to me because I like rain and mist and mellow mid-range temperatures.
Good luck on the credit card call… That’s happened with me before, putting off activating a card just because I had to call. I got lucky since it was a joint account and when my partner activated his, they both got activated at the same time, lol. But once it’s done, it’s done… so there’s that. Maybe you’ll get lucky and the activation will be a simple and quick automated process… bleh. 😛
I still haven’t called 😦 I need to. My first payment is next week! 🙂
Ireland sounds much better than what I have to deal with right now. It’s been around -20 C the past couple weeks.
I am an introvert who experiences life much the same way that you describe. If you are familiar with the Enneagram, I am “the Observer” personality. My husband is an extrovert so I find myself in more social situations than my” introvertedness” prefers. I usually don’t mind because wherever I go, I take my inner world with me. So while he flits about the room, I sit in a corner and think and observe. I wear hearing aids so sometimes a crowd of people sounds like the bar scene from “Star Wars.” Any social anxiety stems from people insisting on talking to me in that situation. All I can do is smile, nod, and hope I’m not agreeing to do something I will regret. Thanks for sharing. I really enjoy your blogs and your videos.
Thanks for sharing that. I usually don’t get pulled to any kind of party these days. I simply say I don’t want to go. Actually, I have a company Christmas party on the 16th, but I can’t go, since I have to work as a volunteer at my daughter’s Japanese school that day. To be honest, I think I’d prefer the party, since we’re almost all scientists, and the conversations would mostly be nerdy without any small talk.
