I’m Back!

Let me update you on what’s been going on. You may have noticed that I stopped the A to Z Challenge, as well as a lack of posts other than Authors Answer. And the last one wasn’t even posted! Well, a lot has happened.

Early this month, I caught a cold that completely stole my energy. I still cough because of it, so it’s not completely gone. At the same time, I lost my appetite, and often felt sick to the stomach. I couldn’t eat a full meal for two weeks. I’m glad that’s over. But that’s not all!

Since April 14, I’ve been working every day. Today was my last day (ten days in a row) during this stretch. I was working more than 8 hours a day, as well. And the work I was doing was very physical. I came home exhausted and sore. I tried working on Authors Answer two days ago, but I was just so tired I couldn’t focus on it.

Now that this is over, and I have some time off, I’ll be back to the blog! Don’t worry about Authors Answer. It will be posted today. The first time in 129 weeks I missed posting on schedule. I’ll also continue with the A to Z Challenge and complete it, although not on schedule. I’m hoping to get the remaining 22 videos and posts done within the next couple weeks.

And you know what? I missed this month’s Commentition!

So, that’s what’s been happening. Expect a lot of things to happen.

Week in Review – February 5, 2017

Caught a cold. One that has resulted in a lack of motivation. That’s what happened this past week. I had so many plans put off by this cold. Mostly videos, that is. So, what happened this week?

I finished Animal Farm, by George Orwell! And then I started Theft of Swords, by Michael J. Sullivan. I’m now at 4% finished. It’s a big book.

Nothing, but then, I can’t really concentrate when I have a cold like this.

This is where the cold really reduced my productivity. I ended up uploading only 1 video to my main channel. Even the ones I’d completed the week before, I never got around to editing and uploading. Wow.

Nothing. Major revamp coming very soon!

I need to get back to work on languages.

The Blog

January turned out to be the best month in stats in four months. But really, I haven’t done anything major in the past week. Again, creativity is difficult when you’re sick.

The Next Week’s Goals

Get over this cold! And I’ll see if I can record a video tomorrow and some on Wednesday. And blog posts will continue as usual. Wish me luck!

How was your week?

Uncomfortable, but I Can’t Look Away

I went to work for the third time this year. I’ve been working every day so far. It’s January. And it’s cold. Not only that, it was humid last night, so everything got frosty. This is what I saw near work.

Looks like some nice scenery, doesn’t it? But it was -19 degrees Celsius at the time. Cold! It can simultaneously be beautiful and very uncomfortable.

That had me thinking, have I ever been unable to stop reading, yet uncomfortable about what I was reading? Yes, I have.

When I was reading Wizard’s First Rule, some scenes with Darken Rahl were incredibly uncomfortable, as he was a completely asshole. He was a monster. Some of the things he did were so bad, I really hated the character. Yet, I couldn’t stop reading.

Have you ever been in this situation? Let me know in the comments below without revealing any spoilers.

I’m Cold, and It’s Killing My Creativity

Ever feel like you just don’t want to do anything? Or you want to do something, but you don’t want to put in the effort? That’s how I feel right now. Of course, I managed to push myself to write this blog post, but my mind doesn’t seem to want to think about much at the moment.

The problem? I’m cold. It’s cold in my apartment. But that’s the way homes are in Japan during winter. Insulation isn’t very good and there’s no central heating. Our heat source is an air conditioner. It dries the air, so gives us sore throats if we use it during the night. So, I’m sitting here on the sofa with my feet off the floor. And I’m cold. It took a lot of effort just to reach over to my keyboard and type this. Sometimes, this is how I feel in winter here. I don’t want to move. I just want to cover myself up and remain immobile. I don’t want to leave bed in the morning, either.

When I was a kid, and it was cold, I’d always lie down on the floor or sofa wrapped up in an afghan. It helped keep me warm while I enjoyed watching TV or doing something else. But now, I live in an apartment that has wood floors that get cold in winter. I don’t want to be down there on the floor.

Cold is my kryptonite. It makes me shut down. I’m from Canada. Some Canadian, huh?

A Day of Downtime

My sister and I have both caught colds, and we’ve been on the go every day this week. Since it’s raining today, we decided to just stay home and relax for the day, as we still have another week of running around and sightseeing to do. I recorded a brief video about this.

So, I will get to the videos. They just take time to do, since each one contains many individual videos, and I don’t really have that much time every day to do them. They’ll come soon, though.

In the meantime, subscribe to my channel!

Sightseeing While Sick

Today’s our first real big sightseeing day, and what happens? I wake up with a barely there voice.  I find it hard to talk, and I have a sore throat. I won’t let that stop me, though.

Today is Enoshima. It’s a big day, because we tried going to Enoshima three times last year, and something always came up to stop us. But we will go today, explore the island, then see the aquarium. I’ll be making a couple videos, but I may not be talking much on them.

Here’s an Enoshima picture just to show you what it looks like.

Look at this.

These were the temperatures today. That’s what we see in January, not April. Two days ago, it was 23 degrees. Beautiful and warm. But winter returned. It even snowed in some places.

I know what some people will say. “See? Global warming doesn’t exist! Climate change is a liberal conspiracy!” Give me a break. This is local weather, not global climate. The evidence shows the world is warming. Climate change exists, and it’s giving us more than just warmer temperatures. It’s giving us more extreme weather. Extreme cold, extreme rain, extreme drought, extreme storms. That is the reality of climate change.

Energy, Why Have You Left Me?

Yesterday was the worst day for allergies so far this year.  Today looks pretty bad, too.  As a result, the medicine didn’t work at all.  I have been completely sapped of energy, too.  It’s possible I may have a cold at the same time.  I can’t tell, they’re so similar.  Today’s going to be fun.

I’d intended on doing some writing today, but just didn’t have the energy.  I’m also behind on replying to comments.  I’ll get caught up, don’t worry.  My fingers just don’t want to move very much at the moment.

Well, must get ready for work.

How Cold Is an Old Japanese House in Winter?

I’m currently staying at the in-laws, and the grandmother’s house is old. Coming from Canada, I was used to central heating and good insulation. Well, take a look at this.

That’s right, only 5 degrees Celsius! We slept through that. We could see our breath. Even my much newer apartment gets pretty cold inside. The houses here are built so you can open the windows in summer and get a breeze going through the house. This was before the widespread use of air conditioners. It gets very hot and humid here in summer. Construction techniques have improved, but still has a long way to go together to western standards for keeping comfortable temperatures. The houses are built well for earthquakes, though.

Have you ever stayed in a very cold house before? Leave your experiences in the comments below. I’d love to read about them.
