Starting a New Science YouTube Channel! The Jay Dee Show 7

The biggest news of the week is the fact that I’m planning on starting a new science YouTube channel. I’m excited about it. I don’t think I’ve been this excited about starting a YouTube channel before. But first of all, let’s check out my main channel.

On the silly side of things, I did a Mad Libs video. I made a short story and asked readers to submit words for it. Here is the result.

And then I talked about the fantasy books I’m looking forward to in 2017.

Interested in books from Angola? Well, here are a few you can check out!

I then reviewed another episode of Star Trek. In this one, I did some acting with questionable results.

Back to Japan and a visit to the famous Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo.

On Friday, it was my weekly book review video. This time, it was Dune, by Frank Herbert.

And earlier today, I talked about what I found difficult about writing fiction.

Now, on to my vlog channel. I talked a lot about a new channel I want to start, and like I said, it’s something I’m excited about.

The first video of the week was one that I’d recorded on election night.

And then I talked about the Trump presidency in a very cynical video.

My sister got a new car, but someone couldn’t keep a secret. That’s my daughter.

It was my mom’s birthday, and we had a couple days of fun, including a movie and some games.

And then, the big news. I was considering doing science videos on the vlog channel. I talked about how enthusiastic I felt about it.

But it turns out I decided to create an entirely new channel for science!

And to make some high quality videos, I need a new video editing software. I decided on Filmora.

Doing some research in how to improve my videos, I talked about YouTube Analytics, as well as a memorable trip to Arby’s.

So, that’s all for this week. I hope you enjoyed the videos you chose to watch. Let me know which videos you enjoyed the most. Thanks for watching!

Really, Americans?

Congratulations, United States, you’re about to elect a mysoginistic, racist, anti-science, anti-vaccine, climate change denier as President. He’s also a guy who thinks only of himself, will erode the educational, scientific, and medical systems of the United States. Markets around the world are already dropping.

Wow. Well, good luck.

Forget Clinton, Sanders, Trump, and Carson

You know what I say? Forget about Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Donald Trump, and Ben Carson. I know the perfect team to be President and Vice President. Hear me out.

It doesn’t matter which one becomes President, but together as a team, they would be amazing. I wonder how many people would vote for this team. They’re intelligent, popular, and well-respected. People like them. They’re honest, they have high integrity, and they truly care about the world. They are wonderful educators, very peaceful, and would lead the United States to an intellectual golden age. They are the anti-Trump/Carson duo. Who are these wonderful people?

Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Who’s with me? (Even though I’m not American, but a very concerned person from the neighbouring country of Canada)

Please Explain Donald Trump and Ben Carson

I’ve been interested in politics recently, both Canadian and American. Overall, it’s been very interesting.

On the Canadian side, we’ve got a new Prime Minister and government with a cabinet that seems well-chosen. I’m happy with how the Canadian government is going at the moment.

On the American side, the Democrats seem sane. However, it’s the Republican side that has me scratching my head. What the hell is up with Donald Trump and Ben Carson?

Donald Trump is edging into fascist territory with his recent policies. Ben Carson has been found less than truthful and incredibly ignorant about biological science, even though he’s a neurosurgeon. So, there’s one guy who’s blatantly trying to emulate the Nazis and one guy who’s making me wonder how he ever became a doctor.

Americans, can you please explain these two men to me? Why are they getting so much support? How in the world can Trump be the leader in the Republican Presidential nomination race? I really have to question the intelligence of Republican supporters.

If you’re a Republican, and offended by this post, please tell me in an intelligible and intelligent way why you’re offended. People with common sense would like to know.

Canada’s New Liberal Cabinet

I think this was the first Canadian Federal Election I’ve been interested in to such a great degree. I watched what was going on for several months, seeing the rise of the NDP, the fall of the Conservative Party, and the eventual huge win by Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party.

Trudeau is young. He was a big question mark for a lot of people. Too young, too inexperienced, lived a privileged life. After the swearing in and the selection of the Cabinet, I have to think he did a pretty good job so far. Of course, it’s still early.

The Cabinet is quite interesting. Fifty percent are women. There’s a fair number of south and central Asian members. Two are Canadian born Indian, two were born in India, and one was born in Afghanistan. One is now the Minister of National Defence. And one of them will be my Member of Parliament, as I’ll be living in his riding next year. Not only do we have a Minister of Environment, but she’s the Minister of Environment and Climate Change. That’s right, a minister who’s in charge of climate change! You can see the full Cabinet at the Liberal Party’s website.

It looks like Justin Trudeau is serious about diversity in the government and climate change. I’m interested in seeing what happens next.

If you’re Canadian, what do you think of the Cabinet?

So, We Have Another Prime Minister Trudeau

The Canadian Federal election has got to be one of the most contentious I’ve witnessed in a long time. Not between the candidates or parties, but between people I know. Tom Mulcair and the NDP didn’t win, so let’s leave them out of this a bit, other than the fact that many people were saying they’d put the country in huge debt.

Let’s talk about Trudeau versus Harper. Stephen Harper of the Conservative Party was the Prime Minister. Many of the people I knew were incredibly happy that Harper is out. He’s been called the worst Prime Minister ever. Someone who has something against science and the environment and more concerned with money and oil. Others have said he was a great Prime Minister and is the best hope for Canada.

Justin Trudeau and the Liberals are now in power with a majority. With the win, many people I know are very happy and think he’s got some very good support behind him in the party. Others say he’ll destroy the country by taxing us too much.

Well, I don’t like being so extreme. Elections bring out the worst in a lot of people. Their favourite party must win or else it’s the end of the world. It happens in every election. I’m optimistic about the Liberals being in power again. The last time they were, the country had a great economy, a big surplus, and had a very good reputation around the world. I’m more of a “wait and see” kind of person than a “doom and gloom” person or cheerleader.

So, let’s see where this new government takes Canada.

Election Day Is Monday – Vote!

The day to vote is coming soon. It’s on Monday, October 19th. I can’t vote because the Canadian government is now enforcing a law that states that expats who have lived outside of Canada for more than five years cannot vote. So, my voice is silent in the polls. However, I can encourage others to vote.

So, that’s what I’m doing. Don’t be one of those people who says your vote doesn’t count. It does. Because in the last election, more than half of eligible voters did not vote. If those people had voted, the outcome could’ve been completely different. Combined, all those missing votes could have made a huge impact.

So go and vote!
