I Want to Live in Another World! The Jay Dee Show 24

My video-making continues to be a bit slow, but I’m finding I’m very busy recently, and I have less time to record videos. Plus the fact that with the science videos, editing takes about 2 hours for a short 4 minute video. This includes doing the thumbnails, but doesn’t include searching for images or writing the script. There’s probably about 5 hours of work for a short 4 minute video.

So, here are the past week’s videos. There are 3 of them. I made only 2 for my main channel and 1 for my science channel.

Starting off with my main channel, the first video I posted is my Top 5 Fantasy World video. I talked about the 5 fantasy worlds I love the most.

And then I finally posted my latest Authors Answer video, only 2 weeks late. It’s about writing child and teenage characters.

Moving on to my science channel, since I did a science video last Saturday, there wasn’t one on Monday. So, the only video of the week was the weekly science news video. This one featured some amazing pictures of Pan, Saturn’s small moon, and some political stuff about the EPA.

That’s all for this week! Let me know what you thought of the videos in the comments section below. Over the next week, there should be 2 regular science videos plus a few videos for my main channel I hope to get done, including a Star Trek one, a book review, and Authors Answer. Maybe I’ll finally get back to doing the Japan videos.

Back to World Building

World building is an important part of fantasy and sometimes science fiction. Creating new worlds is a very complex task, and it’s something I enjoy a lot. On this blog, I’ve been writing about world building. You can check out what I’ve done so far here.

I’ve made some big plans for it, which I talked about before. I have many topics I want to talk about and go through in detail. I started out very scientifically, but much of what I’ll be doing deals with society, culture, laws, and even things like magic. There are many areas to research and present.

In addition to blog posts, I’ll be doing videos that correspond with each blog post. What I’ll be able to do on video is show you a bit more about the process. I’ll be starting off with choosing a star, then moving on to developing the planet, and a bit of a side video talking about creating a calendar for an alien world.

But if you check out the post I’ve done before, I asked about what else you would like to see. So, if you have any suggestions, then please let me know in the comments below.

A Look to the Future! The Jay Dee Show 14

It’s been a busy week for me at work, so I didn’t have nearly as much time to work on my videos. In fact, I didn’t even record a single video this week. However, I posted 5 new videos.

On my main channel, I was unable to do the weekly Retro Book Review or Authors Answer videos. However, I did get others up.

Up first is a New Year video where I talk about what happened in 2016 and what I plan to do in 2017.

Then Christmas returns with a Christmas book haul! Check out what I got for Christmas.

And then I talked about which Fantasy series I want to read in the future.

I continued that theme with a video about which sci-fi series I want to read in the future.

And finally, a video in the A Taste of Japan series with a visit to an amazing temple that has a beautiful cemetery. It really must be seen.

Over the next week, I’m off from work, so I have plenty of time to do videos. I’ll be doing a new channel trailer for my main channel, as well as an announcement video on my vlog channel about the change to a science channel.

So, which video did you like? Let me know in the comments section.

Top 5 Must Read Fantasy and Sci-Fi Series

There are so many fantasy and science fiction series out there, I don’t know how I can read all of the ones I want to read. So, I just make a list of the top ones, and make sure I focus on them.

Here is my top 5 must read fantasy series list, in video form:

And my top 5 must read sci-fi series, also in video form:

What do you think of my lists? Any surprises?

What I’d like to know is what are your top 5 series, not just for fantasy and sci-fi. Let me know in the comments section.

I Love Booktube! The Jay Dee Show 13

It’s the end of the year, and this is the final blog post of 2016. It’s been a terrible year in terms of reading, writing, and celebrity deaths. I wonder what 2017 will hold. In the last week, I only posted 5 videos on my main channel. Christmas and a busy work schedule resulted in fewer videos. But I think you’ll enjoy what I have.

First up is my Christmas video! I talked about why I love Booktube. Check it out.

For the next two posts, I talked about my favourite novel series. First up is my top 5 fantasy series.

And then my top 5 sci-fi series.

Moving on to regular videos, I finished the year off with the next two. First is the weekly Retro Book Review. This was for Terrene: The Hidden Valley, by Eric Liu.

And finally, a little love to end off the year in my weekly Authors Answer.

On my vlog channel, I’ll be making an announcement in the next week about how it’ll be changing to a science channel. Subscribe for some science!

That’s all for this week and this year! Next week will be another busy work week, but after that, I’ll have plenty of free time for a week. And that’s the week I plan to reveal the new science channel. Stay tuned!

Starting a New Science YouTube Channel! The Jay Dee Show 7

The biggest news of the week is the fact that I’m planning on starting a new science YouTube channel. I’m excited about it. I don’t think I’ve been this excited about starting a YouTube channel before. But first of all, let’s check out my main channel.

On the silly side of things, I did a Mad Libs video. I made a short story and asked readers to submit words for it. Here is the result.

And then I talked about the fantasy books I’m looking forward to in 2017.

Interested in books from Angola? Well, here are a few you can check out!

I then reviewed another episode of Star Trek. In this one, I did some acting with questionable results.

Back to Japan and a visit to the famous Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo.

On Friday, it was my weekly book review video. This time, it was Dune, by Frank Herbert.

And earlier today, I talked about what I found difficult about writing fiction.

Now, on to my vlog channel. I talked a lot about a new channel I want to start, and like I said, it’s something I’m excited about.

The first video of the week was one that I’d recorded on election night.

And then I talked about the Trump presidency in a very cynical video.

My sister got a new car, but someone couldn’t keep a secret. That’s my daughter.

It was my mom’s birthday, and we had a couple days of fun, including a movie and some games.

And then, the big news. I was considering doing science videos on the vlog channel. I talked about how enthusiastic I felt about it.

But it turns out I decided to create an entirely new channel for science!

And to make some high quality videos, I need a new video editing software. I decided on Filmora.

Doing some research in how to improve my videos, I talked about YouTube Analytics, as well as a memorable trip to Arby’s.

So, that’s all for this week. I hope you enjoyed the videos you chose to watch. Let me know which videos you enjoyed the most. Thanks for watching!

What Books Do You Want to Read?

Everyone is waiting for the next book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin. It’s a highly anticipated book. There are many others that people want to read.

I’m so far behind in many series that I’m not anticipating new releases yet. However, there are books that have been out for a long time that I want to read quite a bit. Here are some of them:

  • Wool Omnibus, by Hugh Howey
  • Anything by Brandon Sanderson
  • All of the books in the Shannara series that I haven’t read yet.
  • The Kingkiller Chronicles, by Patrick Rothfuss
  • The Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks
  • The Demon Cycle by Peter V. Brett
  • The Broken Empire series by Mark Lawrence

And more. What I’d like to know is what you really want to read. It can be anything that’s already written or something coming in the future. Let me know in the comments below. Maybe you’ll persuade me to read them, too.
