Today, on my way to work, I was waiting in the station for the train when I saw a high school girl and several boys come on to the platform. They were all wearing PE uniforms, and it looked like they were going to some competition or practice. However, the girl was carrying a javelin. A pink javelin. I’ve never seen someone carry a javelin into a train station before. Well, the train came, and we all got on, though on different cars.
At my destination, I got off the train, and so did the students. There’s a sports stadium near where I work, so maybe they were going there. I got to thinking, who would ever imagine a girl getting on a train with a spear, let alone seeing it actually happen? Not me.
Of course, I’ve seen a lot of high school students, mostly girls, but sometimes boys, getting on the train or the bus with a very long bow for Japanese archery. These bows are about two metres in height. I’m so used to seeing them now, I don’t get surprised by them.
What are some of the strangest or most unusual things you’ve seen on public transportation?
