We’re in Vancouver, but Jetlagged

We’re in our hotel room, all of us exhausted from our flight and jetlagged. None of our plans happened. Sleepiness has taken over completely. It’s now almost 7 pm, and we don’t know where to eat, since our daughter may be out completely for a while. We should decide and get something, though.

I didn’t get much video of our departure or arrival. Constantly trying to figure out where to go, how to do it, and so on. It’s strange being in Canada, and I’m always having to stop myself from doing Japanese things, like bowing, speaking Japanese, and more. I’ll have to do a complete write-up of our experience soon.

But for now, what do we eat?

Absolutely Exhausted

It’s 11 pm now, and I have been up since 7 am yesterday. Lots gone in the apartment. We’re spending tonight and tomorrow night in a hotel. Tiniest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in. But it’s on the 20th floor in Sakuragicho, so it has a good city night view. Tomorrow morning, breakfast buffet!

Good night.

39, but Not Admitting It

It’s my birthday. I remember when my parents were my age. Now I’m that age. Weird. But you know what? I don’t care. Age is just a number, and I feel totally different than my age.

People are expected to be or act their age. I may act it in some ways, but I’ll still do fun things younger people do. I’m not going to be an age, I’m going to be me. Besides, with my daughter being only four, I have to be young at heart.

In other topics, the trip this weekend was amazing. The hotel was amazing. The hot springs were amazing the view was amazing. I have a lot of pictures, but also around four videos to add to A Taste of Japan. I’ll try focus on those videos before we go to Canada, but no way I can finish them all. It’s about thirty-three videos to make.

Wish I could take that holiday over again.

My weekly report is delayed, and will be done tonight, as well as the weekly science video, and another post with a video I recorded this morning. Lots to see!

Private Bath at a Hot Spring Resort

For a short time this morning, we had access to a private bath for families. It seemed hotter than the others. This is what it was like.

The main room.

The room to wash yourself before going in to the bath. The large bath we went to yesterday had a much larger area to wash.

And finally, the bath itself. It’s on the fourth floor, so we had a good view of the ocean.

Have you ever experienced hot springs? Let me know in the comments below.

A Day at a Hot Spring Resort

This is just a preview. I’m not posting all the pictures. I have a lot of photos to show you and there’ll be videos to add to A Taste of Japan.

We’re in Izu, which is a peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture, and it’s famous for its resorts and hot springs (onsen). We’re staying in one. We first went to Kawazu, a town famous for Kawazu cherry blossoms, which are almost in full bloom. Here’s a picture of cherry blossoms and rapeseed.

We found a foot bath, too. We tried it out. Here are my feet.

We also had lunch before the cherry blossoms. I had udon with kinmedai, which is a fish that’s similar to red snapper. Delicious! It’s famous in Izu.

We went to Ito city next to check into our hotel. It’s in Izu-Atagawa, which has a ridiculous number of hot spring resorts. Here’s my daughter in her jinbei.

We then went down to the baths. These hot spring baths are split into men’s and women’s. My father-in-law and I went into the men’s, of course. If you know anything about Japanese hot springs, then you know people go in naked. But it was no problem for me. And of course, no pictures!

After that, we had a traditional Japanese dinner. I lost count how many courses it was. I’ll only show you one thing I ate. This:

It’s wagyuu! That’s expensive Japanese beef. Delicious!

Then my wife and I went down the street to an outdoor hot spring that was right at the sea. I mean, we could get out of the bath and take three steps into the ocean. However, the interesting thing about this hot spring is that it’s mixed. Men and women together! So, there I was in a hot spring next to the ocean under the moonlight with a few naked men and women. It wasn’t bad. I guess that’s what a naturist resort would be like.

We went back to the hotel, and this is what we did soon:

Tomorrow, another day of baths, and I think we’re seeing alligators and bananas.

Comments are definitely welcome.
