Poof Goes the Perfect Post

Have you ever been thinking about what to post about on your blog, only to fall asleep and continue thinking about the post in a dream? That just happened to me when I put my daughter to bed. I ended up falling asleep next to her for about an hour. Just a bit sleepy today.

As for the post, my dream made it even better. It was going to be amazing, and lots of people will love it. Then I woke up, saw the time, and realised what had just happened. I remember my daughter falling asleep, then getting ready to get out of bed and back to the living. Except I fell asleep at that moment.  But when I woke up, that’s what my memory of the post came up quickly… then disappeared. My post idea, taken away by a forgotten dream. Don’t you love it when that happens?

Never fear, I’ve got lots of ideas for blog posts, book, and more. I’m just a bit sleepy.

A New Year in Japan – A Temple Visit with Luck?

We went to another temple, this time Monjuji in Saitama City. I’ve been there before about three times. This time, things were a bit different.

The main gate of the temple.

We went next door, to an attached building, where most of my wife’s family went up for a New Year’s service. My sister-in-law’s husband and I stayed downstairs to watch my daughter and his daughter. The cousins played while we waited. After that was over, it was time for something a bit different.

My daughter got to drink some amazake, a sweet drink available at New Year’s.

We waited in line to go up to the temple, ring the bells, toss in a coin, and pray or make a wish for the year.

And then, I got an Omikuji. This is a fortune. I was trying my luck.

It turns out my fortune said suikichi. That means future luck. So, I should have luck later on this year. It said I shouldn’t rush into things and take my time. When looking for a new job, I should be patient, and one will come. Health will be better, and to stay the course in my studies.

I wish I had luck after that because when we returned to my wife’s grandparents’, we had lunch. It was a good lunch, and we ate a lot. However, my daughter had diarrhea. We had no change of clothes and ran out of wet wipes. We returned to my wife’s parents’ house and did laundry. I am now waiting for it to dry in a coin laundry.

Well, that’s it for now. We’ll see what’s in store for later.

Hitting the Birdwatching Jackpot

Ever been walking outside and you see something you’ve never seen before? I saw this.

Thirteen big white birds. Hmm, what are they?

They’re great egrets! Thirteen great egrets all in one place! I’ve seen two or three in somewhat close proximity to each other, but never thirteen. But that’s not all! A little further away, I saw this.

What? A grey heron? Thirteen great egrets and a grey heron all in one area? I truly have never seen this before.

Is this a birdwatching jackpot? Do I win something? Have you been lucky enough to see something like this?

Sightseeing While Sick

Today’s our first real big sightseeing day, and what happens? I wake up with a barely there voice.  I find it hard to talk, and I have a sore throat. I won’t let that stop me, though.

Today is Enoshima. It’s a big day, because we tried going to Enoshima three times last year, and something always came up to stop us. But we will go today, explore the island, then see the aquarium. I’ll be making a couple videos, but I may not be talking much on them.

Here’s an Enoshima picture just to show you what it looks like.
