500 Subscribers on YouTube! The Jay Dee Show 37

Thanks to a sudden increase in subscribers on my YouTube channel, I’ve passed 500 subscribers! That was a pretty quick increase, and it keeps going. In the past week, I’ve posted 3 videos, all on my main channel.

The videos on my main channel are mainly about Authors Answer, but also a talk about what I plan to do on my channel in the future.

We start off with Authors Answer. I talked about movie novelizations and my experience with them.

Then my channel passed 500 subscribers. As a celebration, I made a video! And you have got to see my daughter in it. She’s a bit silly.

And then another Authors Answer! This time, I talk about writing sex scenes. Exciting!

Some Star Trek and a science video are coming this week. I hope to get to a lot more, as well! That includes Japan videos.

Which video did you enjoy the most? Let me know in the comments section.

We Went to Japan! The Jay Dee Show 32

Thanks to our trip to Japan, there was a lack of updates and videos. But since coming back, I’ve been able to put up a few videos, including Japan travel vlogs! There will be many more, though. I also did some Booktube videos. Since the last time, I’ve uploaded 6 videos with a couple more coming today.

All videos except one were uploaded to my main channel. The other was on my old channel dedicated to my daughter and I. I’m reviving it!

Starting off with my main channel, I talked about our trip to Japan before we left. Here it is!

And then we went to Japan with a silence on the channel for two weeks. But when we got back, I started on the Japan videos again. Here is the one all about our flight to Japan. And jet lag.

During our time in Japan, I celebrated a milestone. 1 year on Booktube! Here’s the video, and I’d like you to ask me some questions for a Q&A video.

The next Japan video was about readjusting to life in Japan. We visited many places which may seem mundane to people in Japan, but may be much more interesting for people who have never been to the country.

And finally, my daughter has a very important message about reading and school for you. Check it out.

As I said, there is a third channel! It’s called Tommy and Dad, and I started it long before my science channel. I actually started it when my daughter was only 2 years old. She’s 5 now. I’ve decided to make this into a family vlog channel which I will update a couple times a week. Check out the first video, all about Father’s Day.

Over the next week, I have new science videos coming, as well as a tag video which is very interesting. I’ll also resume Authors Answer and I’d love to have a Star Trek and/or Read the World video up, too. And of course, more Japan!

Let me know which videos you liked the most in the comments below.

Wow! A Year of Booktube Videos!

On June 8, I celebrated my first anniversary of making videos for Booktube. If you don’t know what Booktube is, it’s a very friendly corner of YouTube completely occupied by people who love reading! And no, it doesn’t have a specific URL.

I’ve been running my channel since the summer of 2009 (8 years!), but have only been making videos steadily for the past year when I decided to make videos about books, reading, and writing.  I also dabble in Star Trek, movies, and the occasional travel video (more on that in a later post!). But for now, let’s talk about Booktube.

I made a video talking about this very topic. I also announced a Q&A. So, I want you to go down to the comments section and leave me a question. It can be about anything. I’ll be making another video next week answering all the questions. So, this is your chance!

Check out the video:

So, what are you waiting for? Ask me a question!

Week in Review – January 29, 2017

The past week has been busy. Not so much online, but there was a lot in my personal life. This includes my daughter’s birthday in the middle of the week and her birthday party today. And this blog had a huge milestone.

I almost finished Animal Farm, by George Orwell. I’m at 92% done, and I’ll easily finish it tomorrow. Then it’s on to a new book, Theft of Swords, by Michael J. Sullivan.

I didn’t get anything done, unfortunately.

It was an odd week for videos. I actually recorded 6 videos for my main channel, but only uploaded 3. I will be uploading the remaining 3 this week, as wel as recording new ones. I still haven’t done the new channel trailers, though.

Nothing. Major revamp coming very soon!

I need to get back to work on languages.

The Blog

100,000 views! I reached that huge milestone today, actually. It’s hard to imagine that number of people. Of course, it’s the number of views, not number of people who read my posts. But still, amazing!

The Next Week’s Goals

Get back on track with everything, especially since the month is ending and another is beginning. I need to get caught up with comments and social media. I want February to get off to a great start in all aspects.

How was your week?

A Big 300! The Jay Dee Show 9

My main channel reached a big milestone. 300 subscribers! And then after that, the number of subscribers increased fairly quickly. 13 new subscribers in a week! Things are looking pretty good.

On my main channel, I was able to post 8 videos, which is more than usual.

We start off with my daughter’s questionable sense of humour in a library book haul.

And then we get to the 300 subscriber video. Actually, part 1! It’s a special video where I talk about some of my best stories from Japan.

The next day, I posted part 2, which has some more stories from my life in Japan.

With the end of the month, I talked about my November Wrap Up, what I read during the month.

And then it was the books I plan to read in December, my TBR video.

Then I followed that up with a brief video, showing my failed attempt to go up Tokyo Skytree.

As usual, Friday had the Retro Book Review, this time The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

And last, I talked about what would stop me from writing in Authors Answer.

On to my vlog channel now. I’m still behind in posting videos, but I’m attempting to catch up. Some videos are covering two to three days at times.

I had an issue with the internet one night, and complained about it in a vlog.

And then I did a lot of walking one day. Most of this vlog was outside.

And finally, my daughter had  performance at her Japanese school. Although I don’t show the performance, I talk a lot about it. And there’s a zamboni!

That’s it for this week! If you have a favourite video, please let me know in the comments section below. I also invite you to subscribe to my channels so you can see them as I upload them. Thanks for watching!

An Introvert in Winter! The Jay Dee Show 8

Oops! I got a little behind in my vlog again. Attempting to catch up again this weekend. Actually, I did a few vlogs that cover two or three days instead of one. My main channel is updated as normal, though!

First up, with my main channel, I posted seven videos. Let’s take a look at them.

The library book hauls have returned! This time, my daughter is acting as silly as ever.

Lots of milestones. My channel reached 20,000 views! Also, 6 months is coming up, and my channel is just about to reach 300 subscribers. I also made the science channel announcement.

My next Opening Up video is a big one. I talk about being an introvert.

Since the weather has become wintry, I made some book suggestions based on winter weather.

Returning to Japan, I uploaded a quick video about the architecture of Ginza in Tokyo. Some of it is really unusual!

Continuing as usual, I posted my next retro book review, His Majesty’s Dragon, by Naomi Novik.

And finally, just two hours ago, I posted the latest in my Authors Answer videos with my goals for writing.

Moving on to my vlog channel, I only posted three videos. I should be posting another one later tonight, though. It’ll be after midnight, though.

First off, I talked about some vloggers who are quitting or changing their channels, as well as what’s going on with my channel idea for science.

Then I show you a bit about the wintry weather we’ve been getting, but something odd happened. Geese were flying the wrong direction!

And I had an issue with recording, but I did get to talk about something! It’s a short video, but worth watching.

That’s all for this week! If you have a favourite video, let me know in the comments below. If you watched all of them, thank you! And if you haven’t subscribed to either of these channels, but you’d like to, then please click on the links above and subscribe.

Week in Review – October 2, 2016

Things sure are interesting lately. I started my new job this past week, and so far, I’m loving it! I’ve only done training, but everyone has been great. I love the atmosphere at work. On the other hand, my knee started acting up a couple days ago. Today, it’s swelling up, and it’s quite stiff. It’s an old injury bugging me because of the cooler weather. But let’s see what went on this week!

Thanks to the new job and the long commute, I’ve been able to read more than before. I’m now at 74% in Redemption Ark, by Alastair Reynolds. With at least three days of work this week, I’ll be able to read a lot more. I may actually finish this book next week!

I ended up having very little time and privacy again.

I’ve been working a lot on doing SEO (search engine optimization) for my videos. I still have a lot to do, though. On my main channel, I posted 7 videos. On my vlog channel, I posted another 6 videos. I haven’t done a daily vlog this past week, but nearly. Going to work on keeping that pace, though.

Nothing. Major revamp coming!

The Blog

Authors Answer reached 100 questions! It’s a major milestone, and I’m so happy we’ve been able to do it for so long. The end of this month will mark 2 years of Authors Answer.

Looking at the Month in Review, the stats have been getting worse. I know the problem, and I think I know how to recover. I need better blog posts, and I’ll be posting videos on only digest posts each week. I’d like more written and photographic content on the blog, which is what was the strength of this blog. I also need to reach out again, visit other blogs and comment on them. Find new blogs and comment on them. Get back to networking. I’ve been concentrating so much on YouTube that I’ve been neglecting those aspects of blogging.

Does reading four manuals for work count?

The Next Week’s Goals

Vlog a lot, blog a lot, and focus on marketing both the blog and YouTube channels. I also hope to take it easy on my knee to let it heal up. I really don’t need it to be hurting on Wednesday and Thursday, when I’ll be doing plenty of standing and walking. And of course, lots of reading!

How was your week?

1,500. That’s a big number. That’s how many followers this blog now has. And if you’re reading this, you’re probably one of them. And I have to thank you very much.

Without my regular readers who keep coming back, this wouldn’t be as much fun as it is. For those of you who leave comments, thank you! For those of you who like my posts, thank you! And for those of you who read my posts, thank you!

I started this blog for myself, to keep track of the books I read, and to write out reviews. I also started this blog for you, all the people who read it. I wanted to do a couple things, show you my writing and create a community of people who have similar interests as me. The community is now the size of a small town. 1,500! My hometown has a bit more than 2,000 people, so it’s quite comparable. It’s kind of amazing, come to think of it.

But I think the thing I have to say about reaching 1,500 followers is this: I appreciate every one of you who has followed this blog. Again, thank you very much!

200 and 16,000 – What Does It Mean?

Today, I passed a couple milestones! Isn’t that nice? Two in one day. But what are they?

Let’s look at the smaller number. 200. This video will explain it:

My YouTube channel reached 200 subscribers! Actually, it sits at 203 right now, but it reached 200 this morning. I like numbers. But it’s really not important. I just want to thank the people who keep me doing what I do.

But what about 16,000? It’s about this blog! And it’s about you, my readers. More specifically, it’s about those of you who comment. The blog reached 16,000 comments today! That just seems so unbelievable. With a bit more than 2,000 posts, that means about eight comments per post. But still, that’s a big number! I can’t really imagine it.

The biggest message I have to give to you is thank you. I love the community I have on this blog, and I love the community I have discovered in the booktube corner of YouTube. I’m looking forward to much more in the future!
