Using LinkedIn More Effectively

I think it’s time to improve my LinkedIn profile and expand my network. I’m going to start using the social network to promote myself professionally, as well as this blog and my writing. But I’m thinking about how to do that.

First of all, if you’re interested in connecting with me, you can find my profile here and add me as a connection.

Secondly, I need to flesh out my profile. That includes past jobs, responsibilities, write more about my education, and more. But another thing I’m thinking about doing is starting a group related to this blog. But what should I do with it? Should I make it about this blog? Or should it be about Authors Answer? What do you think? Let me know in the comments below.

The Global Community of Blogging

I love to connect with people from all around the world. I’m curious about different cultures and enjoy speaking to people who are from different backgrounds than I am. It’s fascinating. And I feel that the better we know each other, and the more we understand that many of us have the same feelings and thoughts, the better the world will be.

Blogging has allowed me to talk to people from different countries. Of course, I live in Japan, and most of the visitors to this blog are American, Canadian, British, and Australian, but there are many representatives of India, Singapore, France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, New Zealand, Russia, the Netherlands, Brazil, and Nigeria. But there are more from many other countries who drop by here.

So, I’d like to ask you where you’re from. Which country are you from, and where do you live now? Also, where have you been and made friends? Let’s see how global we are. Answer in the comments below.

Expanding Your Blog Network and Readers

Ever have one of those moments when you’re thinking, “Why the hell didn’t I think of that before?” And it turns out that idea is incredibly simple and obvious? I did as I read this post by Jason of HarsH ReaLiTy.

In this post, he talks about refreshing your network and keeping in touch with your followers, especially the ones who leave comments on your blog. Simply go to your comments sections and click on the names of the commenters, visit and read their blogs. And most importantly, leave a comment. They will appreciate it and are more likely to return to your blog.

But then it hit me. Why not take it a step further? The people who comment on your followers’ blogs probably have similar blogs. Visit those blogs and follow them if you like what you see. Make sure to leave comments! Not only will you maintain your network and keep in touch with your readers, but you’ll grow your network. You’ll gain new readers.

And seriously, go to HarsH ReaLiTy and follow that blog. Jason gives some of the best blogging advice. He’s helped many people improve their blogs and blogging habits, including mine.

Can you guess what I’m doing tonight?

1 Event That Will Help You Expand Your Readership: Meet and Greet

One thing I enjoy doing is discovering new blogs, commenting, and helping them out. I love my supporters, and try to give back in several ways. Well, a meet and greet is a great way to meet other bloggers. I’ve done it this month on here, but how about checking out another one? And for those of you coming across my blog from this meet and greet, I say hello! Come and stay a while. I hope you’ll find something interesting here.

Dream Big, Dream Often

imagesWhat day is it??!!  Meet and Greet Day!

Ok so here are the rules:

  1. Leave a link to your page or post in the comments of this post.
  2. Reblog this post.  It helps you, it helps me, it helps everyone!  So don’t be selfish, hit the reblog button.
  3. Edit your reblog post and add tags (i.e. reblogging, reblog, meet n greet, link party, etc.), it helps, trust me on this one.
  4. Share this post on social media.  Many of my non-blogger friends love that I put the Meet n Greet on Facebook and Twitter because they find new bloggers to follow.  This helps also, trust me.
  5. And if you leave a link and don’t follow me, how about ya show ole Danny some love?

Now that all the rules have been clearly explained get out there and meet n greet your butts off!

Getting Serious About LinkedIn

There’s one social network I have neglected for the longest time.  I joined, filled in a few things, then left it alone.  I regularly got updates and requests and never really did anything about it.  Well, it’s time.  LinkedIn, here I come.

This is different than all the other social media sites I’ve used.  This one is professional.  It’s linked to work and careers.  It can actually help people find jobs, expand their professional networks, and advertise their services.  In my case, I’d also like to use it to publicise this blog.  But you see, I have a problem.  I don’t know much about LinkedIn.  I need to study it.  I also need to complete my profile.

So, I need your help.  For those of you who use LinkedIn, do you have any tips about using it?  Let me know in the comments below.
