Got an Itch for Birdwatching

Ever since coming back to Canada, I’ve been watching the birds whenever we’ve gone out. My wife has been taking pictures, I’ve been listening to the birds. I’d like to find my field guide to birds of western North America and start birdwatching.

This is going to be a bit bigger than just finding the birds. I plan on taking pictures and posting them, but not on here. I’m going to start a separate blog for birds of Alberta (and more). I’ll just keep taking pictures and posting them, even if they’re birds I’ve taken pictures of before. I may take a very good picture that has to be shared. On that blog, I’m going to keep a checklist of the birds I’ve seen, and update whenever I find a new bird.

So, in addition to this blog, I’ll have the bird blog and an Edmonton Asian and burger restaurant blog.

What do you think?

State of the Blogs

Looking over my blogs, I think about how some are active, while most aren’t.  As you may know, I run six blogs, basically. One of them I consider my official author website, though.  Let’s take a look at how they’re doing.

I Read Encyclopedias for Fun

This is my main blog. It wasn’t always my main blog, but it is now. This is what I update twice a day. I’m fully dedicated to this blog, and intend to continue using it for many years to come.  It’s healthy and growing.

Jay Dee in Japan

This was my main blog before, but is now somewhat quiet. I update it infrequently these days, though I have a lot of Japan photos. It was originally intended as a place to keep my photos and organise them. It was a rather large task to do, and I ran out of steam doing it. I won’t abandon that blog, as I plan to continue work on it as before.  There’s no timeline for that, though.

Foreign Dad in Japan

I started this blog before my daughter was born to document what it was like to be a foreigner raising a child in Japan. I continued updating it until my daughter was 2 years old. Then I decided, for her privacy, to stop. It is essentially retired, but will remain up for people to read.

Jay Dee Archer Official Website

I don’t update this as much as I should, but when I get the ball rolling on Journey to Ariadne, and the Ariadne Encyclopedia, it’ll be far more active. It won’t be as active as this blog, though.

365 Rotations

This has been dormant since last July. It is not retired, though. Since I finished the photo experiment, I continued keeping track of the daily weather. In fact, I still do keep a record, and will publish to that blog. I also plan to do statistical analysis of the monthly weather.

Mainichi Dokodemo Photography

This has been stop and start for quite some time now. I haven’t updated since February. I’d like to post more, but I think I may retire that blog in favour of another photo blog.  That’s right, another blog.

New Photo Blog!

I’ll be starting a new blog about urban photography, architecture, and technology. It’s going to be all about human creations, especially with respect to cities and towns.  My only problem is trying to figure out a title for the blog!

I encourage you to check out all of my blogs. I will announce my new photo blog as soon as I get it registered and give it a good name.

Sorry about the silence

I’m sure my regular readers have noticed a lack of posts recently.  Not a complete lack, but it sure has slowed down.  I have reasons for that.  The main reason is that the cold has been making its rounds in my family.  I haven’t caught it, but my daughter and wife both have it.  This has made me busier.

But I haven’t been completely quiet.  I did make a pretty big post for my Japan blog, although it took me 4 times longer than it normally would.  I’ve also started a new project.  It’s actually very simple and takes very little of my time, but it results in at least 3 blog posts a day.  Check out 365 Rotations for my photo project.  I use my iPhone exclusively to make blog posts, which consist of a photo and a short comment.  I’m attempting to take photos every day at the same location to show the changes of the seasons and weather.

Reading continues as usual, but I’ve had little time to focus on writing.  But this lull shouldn’t last long.  Exciting things coming up!
