Welcome, Wonder Woman Trailer

It’s out. The second Wonder Woman trailer. It seems they’ve been able to make some pretty good trailers for the DC universe movies.  Batman v Superman had some really good trailers, but the movie turned out to be not so great. What’s going to happen with Wonder Woman? Watch this:

My initial reaction: Wow. I want to see this movie! A lot of it looks beautifully done. Some of it looks grand. It would look great on the big screen.

There have been so many superhero movies and TV series in recent years. I haven’t seen many of them. That makes me want to watch as many of them as I can.

What did you think of the trailer? And which superhero movies and TV series do you recommend? Let me know in the comments section below.

Which Movie Should I Watch on Netflix?

I’ve already asked you about which TV series I should watch first on Netflix (Sherlock and The Walking Dead won that one). Now I want to ask you which movie I should watch first. It’s difficult to choose! So, take a moment and vote in this poll.

Without using spoilers, tell me why I should watch what you voted for in the comments below.

The Future of My YouTube Channel

I’ve been struggling to figure out what to do with my YouTube channel after we’ve moved to Canada. At the moment, I’m using it to do Japan videos (I know, I know, I need to actually upload some). However, after we’ve moved to Canada, I won’t be able to take more Japan videos until we go on holiday in Japan.

Here’s what I do have planned:

  • A Taste of Japan series
  • Life in Japan series
  • Adjusting to life in Canada series

After that, what do I do? Well, I finally figured out what I could do. It’s not absolutely for sure, but I think I may do it. Originally, I was going to have it as a channel about books and writing. Well, I found it kind of difficult to make many videos about that. So, as I was watching some videos this past weekend, I realised what I have to do.

I’m writing science fiction, and I will write fantasy. I read science fiction and fantasy. I enjoy science fiction and fantasy movies and TV series, as well as superhero movies. I also enjoy astronomy and space exploration. Not only that, I love science in general. So, why not make all things geeky the focus of my channel? I’m pretty much a geek, so it makes sense, right?

What do you think?

The New Batman v Superman Trailer

Back when I was a kid, I watched the Superman movies religiously. I wore a cape! A Superman cape!

In 1989, I saw the Batman movie and thoroughly enjoyed Michael Keaton’s version of Batman, and Jack Nicholson’s Joker. Amazing stuff. I liked Val Kilmer’s Batman, too. But then things fell apart, and we had several mediocre to terrible Batman movies. And then came Christian Bale and his rendition, which I haven’t seen.

I did see Superman Returns, though. Not very satisfied with that one. Nor have I see Man of Steel yet, but I do know that the events in that movie lead up to this: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. I have seen the trailers and teasers. I have seen Wonder Woman. And all of this brought back memories of a huge colouring book I had of the Justice League superheroes. I was a DC Comic superhero fan, not a Marvel superhero fan (except Spider-Man).

But then, last week, a new trailer came out. And here it is:

Let me just say that I’m a kid again. The final scene in this trailer had me excited. While the characters are different than my childhood heroes and villains, seeing all three of these superheroes on screen at the same time was amazing. Everyone raves about The Avengers, but The Justice League is where my heart is.

And thank you, Ben Affleck, for not overdoing the Batman voice like Christian Bale did. You definitely have the better voice. And Jesse Eisenberg is a wild Lex Luthor. This will be entertaining.

The Marvel and DC Movie Challenge

With all the comic book hero movies coming out, I thought I’d add a new challenge. I’d like to watch every Marvel and DC Comics movie ever made. I don’t mean any TV movies or direct to video movies. Only theatrical ones.

I have some favourites. I loved the first couple of Superman movies with Christopher Reeve. I also really liked Michael Keaton’s version of Batman. The first couple of X-Men movies were pretty good, too.

Growing up, I was always a DC superhero fan. I loved Superman and Batman, but I was also interested in others that joined the Justice League. But then, I also liked Marvel’s Spiderman, and watched the old cartoon a lot. I’ll be interested in seeing if I like Marvel or DC movies better. I should keep score.

What’s your favourite and least favourite superhero movie?

Fictional Heroes in Speculative Fiction

Today, my family went an agricultural festival and who appeared? Ultraman! He’s a very popular hero to children in Japan. Many TV series, movies, and public appearances. My daughter wanted to meet him, but we had no time. I got this picture, though.

This had me thinking, in fiction, and particularly in speculative fiction, have there been any instances of fictional heroes in the popular culture of that world? Imagine a superhero story that dwarf children love. He could be called Super Gold Digger. Or an action hero for Vulcans named The Logical Pacifist.

What are some hero names you can think of for popular sci-fi and fantasy novels?
