Tired of the Lies and Politicization of the Fort McMurray Disaster

It is a lie. It’s propaganda designed to make you hate Justin Trudeau and the Liberal government of Canada. I’m not going to go through why this is a lie. Please read this wonderful explanation about exactly what’s happening with the situation and why the Canadian government will be spending a lot more on Fort McMurray than Syrian refugees.

Before you start sharing political memes on the internet, do a little research. Most likely, it’s not true. I’m finding several people I know are falling for these memes and sharing them, thinking they’re true. Well, they’re not true. I am honestly getting tired of all of the people who share things like this without thinking rationally about it. It’s all emotional. Please stop it.

Don’t Believe the Mt. Etna CO2 Meme

Have you seen this floating around on Facebook or Twitter?

Don’t believe it. Don’t believe one word of it. Check this out. It’s a link to the Snopes article explaining why it’s not true. Simply, Mt. Etna releases the same amount of carbon dioxide in an eruption as a small European country does in one day. It’s rather insignificant when compared to the world.

I’ve seen this going around on Facebook with people believing every word of it. They’d take the word of a meme that cites no legitimate sources over the consensus of more than 99% of climate scientists. They say it’s a hoax or conspiracy. “They” are climate change deniers, people who have no formal training in climate science or atmospheric science. They are people who have no idea what science is.

I will fight against ignorance. When you understand the science, then I’ll take you seriously. If you look at all evidence and come to an unbiased conclusion, then I’ll listen. Unfortunately, all the people I’ve seen arguing that climate change isn’t happening are doing so from a political point of view, or they feel that local economics are more important than the future of our planet and the lives of our children and grandchildren. Such arrogance. Such self-centred righteousness.

I Will Change the World with Education

One of my biggest passions is to help improve people’s knowledge.  I want everyone to have good access to education.

One of the things that is sorely lacking these days is science education.  Many people find it dry and boring, and many don’t realise just how important it is.  Without science, we wouldn’t have so many industries: medicine, computers, cell phones, transportation, television, movies, music recording, architecture, video games, and so on.  A lot of people place a high value on entertainment. Well, the entertainment industry requires science to be able to work.  All the technology required needs a good science education to engineer and manufacture. Science is also needed to improve technology, medicine, and environmentally friendly energy and materials.  Nearly everything is touched by science.

What I am doing to encourage an interest in science is to write about it.  I am using my blog to provide interesting information, as well as important issues related to science.  Not only do I want people to have good information, but I want them to find it interesting as well.  If it’s not interesting, many people won’t want to spend any time on it.  I want to share my love for science with everyone, and especially encourage young people to take an interest in it.  We need more scientists to help improve the environment, medicine, and technology.
