Yahoo Email Difficulties

My main email address is through Yahoo. I’ve been using it for years, but I’ve found I get so many emails on it, mostly from blogs I subscribe to, other accounts, and spam. I use it for searching for jobs, communicating with Authors Answer contributors, and more. But with so many emails coming in, I’m thinking it’s time to get a dedicated email address strictly for communication and my blog.

And then today, I noticed an important email was stuck in the spam folder, and I’ve been unable to move it to my inbox. Nothing I’ve tried works. Very strange.

So, I’m going to start up a new email address, but not with Yahoo. I’ll use it for all of my important communication. My question for you is this: Have you had any trouble with Yahoo recently? And how is Gmail? I used Gmail a long time ago when it was new, but stopped using it, since my Yahoo address was my main one. Let me know in the comments.

  1. I have used gmail for the last few years. Have often preferred it to Yahoo. Having different emails for the blogs and work/personal stuff is definitely a good idea.

  2. I use Hotmail for general email and Gmail for work-related things. I think I’ve had that Hotmail account since I was a teen, heh, so it has a less-than-professional address, but it’s the one all my old friends know so I won’t be deleting it any time soon. Mind you, Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail all got hacked recently, so it’s a good time to change/update things.

    1. I had hotmail back in 1997 or 98. I started using Yahoo around 98 or 99, stopped using Hotmail, and forgot about it. Still using the same email address for nearly 20 years.

  3. I use Gmail and love it. I’ve been using it for years. Lots of options for sorting and marking. My wife uses hotmail, but when she needs a new one she creates a gmail account.

  4. Gmail thought emailing a proofread/edited chapter of a fantasy novel to the author was “suspicious activity” and wouldn’t allow me to access my account after that (and also refused to explain what the heck was going on), so I haven’t used it in a while. 2 or 3 years, I think.

  5. I have two emails aol is my main one for mainly personal stuff gmail for blogging. Did have a problem once with aol it sent the same message 11 times from me to my daughter’s teacher, even though I only pressed the send button once! Think he thought I was a tad cross!! Ha ha it worked inadvertently got his attention. Gmail has been ok…

  6. Similar story. Only reason I keep the old personal Yahoo account is all the links to friends, family, and sites tied to it over the years. That said, Yahoo has become notoriously unpredictable and spammy (and easily hacked). Our writers group uses a Yahoo group site, and it’s difficult to use. I use gmail for all my author related things, and tie it to Mozilla’s thunderbird mail handler for easy reading and filing. Gmail is the way to go.
